TN: JJ Prum 2002 Wehlener Sonnenuhr Spatlese

Nov 25, 2003 0 Replies

K&L informed me by letter last Thursday that my pre-arrival/futures order of

5 bottles was in. I called on Friday, paid my shipping charges and my package was delivered today.

Upon opening, I detected peach, apricot and petrol scents. This nectar looks like water, but with a very slight green/gold tint.

Pouring my first glass, I noticed very fine bubbles rising. A few minutes later, the bubbles had dissappeared. My first sip was heaven in my mouth. Slightly sweet but with a mild acidity.

After a few minutes, I get a hint of citrus. There is also a pleasant bitterness.

A good finish, leaving me wanting another glass (which I shall indulge in)

Tonight's enjoyment leaves me with this JJ Prum collection:

5 bottles 1999 Wehlener Sonnenuhr Spatlese
2 bottles 2000 Wehlener Sonnenuhr Spatlese
4 bottles 2002 Wehlener Sonnenuhr Spatlese $34.50 (includes shipping) USD

On a side note, looking at the capsule, I noticed the numbers 5 4 3 2 1 12

11 10 9 8 7 (clockwise) in a shield like design... It's a sundial!

So, in your honest(humble) opinion, If I wanted to do a vertical tasting, what would be the pattern of years? I guess I really need to try and get a couple bottles of 2001 (but that is pricey)

Walter
