Tuscany reccomendations

Ha! Thanks for that. We certainly don't want to waste a day for mediocre chocolate. We live 90 minutes from Hershey and can do that very nicely at home.

Don't do it for the choccolate - do it for Perugia. It's a very nice and charming city. Park at Piazza Partigiana (spelling?) and take the escalator through the old Rocca Paolina up to the Corso in the old part of the city and enjoy the atmosphere.

I totally agree with that. When we listed everything we wanted to see in Italy, we realized we would have to move there for a few years to even make a dent.

I second Joseph on not driving in any of the cities . . . we just received a ticket from our European rental car copmany for driving in a restricted zone in Rome (who knew . . .) -- and we were there a year and a half ago!

I'd also second Siena as a destination/jumping point. It's a lovely city and very approachable. Montalcino and environs is one of our favorite regions of Tuscany (we spent a week there in a villa with friends before apparently breaking the law in Rome). I have a few winery recommendations and a couple of restaurant suggestions for all three cities. Let me gather and I'll post again . . .
