Wine newbie!

Welcome.

A good starting place on the Web, especially since you are in the US is:

another, which has been discussed recently, and is geared toward the beginning wine drinker is: As for the Basignani Winery, I have no knowledge, however there are several very nice wineries in Virginia. There should be a Web site with details. I've done tastings at many - they are a bit scattered, however - and found some very nice and interesting wines, plus very enthusiastic wine makers and tasting room staff. I cannot say that of ALL Virginia winerys, only most of those that I have traveled to.

Next recommendation that I can make is to lurk here as much as you can. While much of the wine discussed here borders on collectables, the majority of the discussion is wine, in general. After you have read all the articles for a bit, don't hesitate to post questions. Remember, the more detail that you can furnish, i.e. your own personal tastes, the recipe for the dish you are hoping to match up a wine with, or the price point that you are looking to spend.

We welcome your observations on wine, of all origin and price points, just remember that this is an international newsgroup (forum), so many of the regulars here might never have heard of a prarticular wine, or even wine region.

From time to time, there is a list of suggestions, usually posted by Ian Hoare IIRC, that enunciates these points very well.
