Wine Suggestions for a get together

I'm having friends over Friday evening for a get together. I'll be serving appetizers (including various cheeses, chicken on scewers, shrimp, scallops wrapped with bacon, nuts (pecans, walnuts, almonds), some sweets, etc.) and I would like to serve a variety of wines. Does anyone have any suggestions for a nice variety? Not too expensive but not too cheap (tasting).

Thanks!!

Hi Cheree, Sounds great, and I wish I was coming to your place on Friday! If it were me, I'd grab some available wines in my cellar - some Cabernet, Zinfandel, Pinot Noir, Chenin Blanc, Port and maybe a Moscato d'Asti. Wow, way too many variables here, especially if you're looking for specific producers. What kind of cheese? I'm hoping other folks in this NG will jump in with suggestions.

Not much help, sorry, Dick R.

To me, nothing starts a get-together off on a good foot better than Champagne or a good sparkling wine. Things can only get better after that.

All great suggestions, thanks all!!

Cheeses: so far, mild cheddar, garlic jack, hot pepper cheese, and some baked brie with Cranberries, Apricots, Hazelnuts & Brandy.

Mabey a port option...? A lighter style tawny might be nice.

Hi Cheree, How did the party go? What wines did you serve?

Just curious, Dick R.

Hey Dick,

Sorry, I just saw your message tonight! The party went great!

Based on the suggestions here, I purchased a variety of wines: pinot noir (I liked this the best), merlot (seemed a little too heavy for me, but others liked it), and some sparkling wines. :)

Thanks for asking! :) Cheree
