Wines From the Mosel

Just thought that some of you who are interested in what we might expect from the 2003 in the Mosel. I am putting in part of an email I received from a friend of mine who is one of the top producers in that area. "If we get a little bit of rain this would be fantastic since the vines do still need a lot of rain. If we get too much rain, we'll slide into problems since the grapes are already very ripe and the skins thin and the acidity comparatively low. Ideally, we get maybe a couple of days of rains, sunny days and cool nights and we could be harvesting a blockbuster. I don't need to look deep into the crystal bowl to see a shortage of Kabinett wines next year..... As you can tell, everything is still "in the pot". One thing is for sure, however, it will be a very early harvest this year and it will be a very interesting year to visit.
