Another wine from the collection my brother put aside for us to drink together when we came this winter. Bought from a specialist in Luca in Italy, I know nothing about this wine at all. I could do some heavy duty bluffing, but think it's fairer to link to a couple of web sites!
Anyway, the great advantage of these two web sites is that they give tasting notes, which saves me having to make a fool of myself by gving notes that are wildly different from those published.
The wine is an intense deep red, with a good fruity nose, pruney isn't a bad descriptor, but it's not as marked as you get on a Shiraz from Australia. I didn't note much blackberry as I had on Ridge's Zinfandel, and the wine was less layered than that too. However the wine was long, extremely elegent and finished well on soft ripe tannins.
We drank it after finishing the Cupinero, and it was less powerful than that. We were accompanying a spicy pork and chestnut casserole with them, and it has to be said that the Cupinero stood up to it better, rather to my surprise. Goodness knows how it will match up the Lamb Dhansak and black-eyed pea and mushroom curry that we've made for tonight.
