Hand corker

We didn't have too much trouble either until the corks which my wine store sell became longer (not 1 1/2 inch, but 1 3/4 inch). I have a floor corker now, which is much easier for me to use. Darlene

I started out with a 3-lever hand corker, and had no trouble with natural cork. I use synthetic cork now, and I couldn't get them to seal reliably with my hand corker, so I switched to a floor model. I *love* my floor corker.

Ok that explains it these are #9 X 1.50 and not the better 1.75's.

I had to go measure them, they just came out of a barrel that was marked "our best #9 corks" I didn't note the length before buying them.

So I guess I should still figure on getting the floor corker then when I move to the 9 X 1.75. But I guess my first couple batches will be ok with these 1.50's cuz I don't foresee any of this wine making it past 2 years (the life expectancy of these corks).

Yeah, you know I didn't notice the difference in length either at first. I have to hand it too those 1 1/2 corks though, they worked very well and went beyond the 2 years. I wouldn't worry about using the shorter corks. Darlene

Good to know in case I somehow develop patience or get enough wine made up to last that long. :)

BTW thanks! you are a big help Darlene.....and I was looking over some old posts here the other day and found one of your recipes for Old Orchard Apple cherry.

It goes into the primary as soon as the apple passion mango moves out.

LOL. I was the same way when I first started. I still make the Old Orchard Apple Cherry wine, it is still one of my favorites. Darlene ;o)

BTW does that apple - cherry come out like a rose' ?

It's light-colored and light-bodied, but it has an orangish tinge to the red color. Darlene
