What's the verdict on........

....the new high-end red wine kits?the ones that include a package of grapeskins.Has anyone had a chance to make and sample any of these products yet? If so,are they a great leap in quality over the previous generation of premium red wine kits? It seems that all the major companies now have a special series out this fall/winter........also....is it just me or has the posting activity on this group nearly ground to a halt?....andy j.

Andy:

Hearing very positive comments on the grape skin kits (look into

formatting link
discussion forums). Have NOT done one myself. Need long term aging (Spagnols says 6-9 months) to allow tannins to soften, etc.

Every fall/winter since I got into this hobby six or seven years ago, the kit companies have done limited edition kits. Usually very good, if its a type of wine that you like. Depending on your favourite store, you may need to be ordering NOW.

In Canada, Vineco dealers need to place their orders TODAY (Nov 30). Spagnols has staggered order deadlines. Can't remember the Winexpert (or other manufacturer) deadline.

I'll probably be making the Shiraz Viognier from Spagnols. Avail in April, order with your dealer by end of Feb (in Canada anyway).
