Does anyone have any experience with Vadai Hungarian oak barrels? The manufacturer says they are made from the same species oak as is found in the Nevers and Allier forests in France. They offer 5.3 and 8 gallon barrels at pretty good prices for French-type oak.

Bill, This is of no use to you but I have used StaVin European beans and they are top notch, I am thinking of a small Hungarian barrel too. I saw one at Grape and Granary that was around $200 for 12 gallons.
Bill, there is a winemaker (Severum)on the winepress.us forum that has purchased a Vadia barrel. It is listed under winemaking equipment discussion (introduction and barrel dilemma). Hope that helps. Larry
I don't know what type it is, but I have a hungarian oak barrel.
I used it for a Cab. S/Cab. F blend (50/50--central valley fruit).
I found it just a touch harsh in the 100% oaked, but when blended 50/50 with unoaked it was spectacular...gave the wine a lot of structure and smoky nuances that it was lacking...I found it gave the wine more of bordeaux aromas and flavours than new world.
