Dated beer

Well, continuing the trend of the past several years the so-called "seasonal" beers keep coming out further and further in advance of the actual season.

Saw Oktoberfests, both foreign and domestic, hit the shelves last week. Eventually I suppose we'll see all styles available all year, at least with the domestic stuff.

Kind af drag with the imports, though. I'm never sure if the "Christmas Ale" I see in July is an early release for this year, or a skunked leftover from last year -- and at $5-$7 per bottle for some of them, I'm not inclined to gamble.

Works for me. If Old Horizontal starts coming out in June or so I'm all over that.

I wouldn't mind if everyone started putting clear bottling dates on their products.

On one occasion I got some old Samual Smith's Winter Warmer that was skunked bad enough to repel cougars.

I've bought it twice, and it was skunked all to high heaven both times. I'll start buying Samuel Smith's when they start buying brown bottles.

Which would mean that the stuff MOC is carrying right now could be as much as a nearly a year old.

That's a year in a clear bottle, under fluorescent lights...
