Lindemans Framboise

Greetings Gents:

I sampled my first Belgian Framboise Ale. I am speechless. It was the single best edible substance that has ever entered my mouth. I have nothing to add, except wow.

Yes, very good, just don't pay the jacked up prices at pubs/bars for it. A local houston area pub charges $11 for bottle. Beverage store price was $6..............Spec's in Houston.

If you like that, you'll love the Cassis!

That's one of my favourite fruit beers as well. ;^) All we get around here is the Peche. Dammit.

Yeah, but it's really a good deal, when compared to the $4-5 a "pint" glass of draft Miller Lite/Bud/Coors goes for compared to the price of a case of Miller Lite/Bud/Coors, isn't it? (I won't even get into box of spaghetti + jar of sauce [or homemade] vs. a dinner down at the local Italian restaurant comparison...).

Try some Gnocci.. ..you'll forget all about spaghetti.

Have it all the time (mostly at home, bought from the Italian deli but also occasionally at "jacked up" prices at a restaurant, complete with nice bread, brusutto (sp) or oil or butter and that damned expensive "ambiance").

But, "forget spaghetti"? Never- I need it under some white clam sauce w/whole clams or Cincinnati style 5-way chili.

I haven't, but I will definitely be on the look out for it. I believe the one I had may not be the only one of its kind within 300 miles of here. I was shocked to find it. I am thinking up going up to Nashville sometime in the near future to visit the Flying Saucer and to stock up...

The Lou Pepe's just pretty damned amazing. I did a lambic tasting with some other pretty experienced beervolk last year in Baltimore. 16 lambics, and the Lou Pepe and the Hanssens Kriek just stuck out like giants. We disagreed on a lot, but not on those two. Wow.

Had my first 'real' gnocci at a restaurant I was trying in Center Square, PA last week. Made me realize what I had eaten in the past were miniature perrogi masquerading as gnocci.

These were lite eating little delicious clouds. Quite a revelation. Spaghetti who?

They may not show up where you are.

Better to be shocked to find than NOT find it.

Flying Saucer, eh? Think I heard of that place, but never been there...

It all depends on how much weight you want to put on labels. If you labeled a Yugo an SUV, and bought it expecting an SUV, you'd be hard-pressed to say good things about it. We, the consumer, didn't label the beer. We just have expectations based on the label the brewer (or the importer) puts on it. Don't blame the consumer for having a negative view of something the brewer caused.

I'm not trying to throw gas on a fire or anything, but...

If Lindemans's has been making -- or at least branding -- lambic for a while, and there aren't too many lambic brewers out there to begin with, it's not a Yugo being labelled as an SUV... It's an SUV that is of a different style than most other SUVs, isn't it?

I have to admit, I'm not familiar with the history of Lindeman's... Is the super-sour lambic more traditional, and they came late to the party and sweetened the recipe? If so, you've got a fair cop. Heck, even if they USED to do more traditional stuff and switched up, maybe. But have they been doing this all along? If so, it's lambic, and just because other lambics aren't as sweet doesn't change that.

Besides, I thought Chapeau was the truly non-traditional lambic brewer...

Am I wrong here? All apologies if I am, but I think that Lindeman's is good beer, and good lambic by default. It's maybe not the most traditional, or the maybe it's the furthest outside the common style, but it's probably all semantics either way.
