Los Angeles

Taking a trip to LA in April. Will be staying near Century City. Any recommendations? In particular, are Father's Office or Library Ale House any good? Is one better than the other? Thanks, /K

Yes, both are any good. They're both well beyond that, in fact.

As for which one is better, it ultimately comes down to atmosphere and feel. Father's Office is tiny and can get very, very crowded. The Father's Office burger is somewhere well beyond outstanding, but if you dont' like what's on it, don't bother, as they don't allow substitutions (and if that sort of attitude bothers you, then maybe Library is a better choice). I'm very fond of both places, and I'd be hard-pressed to pick a favorite. Gun to my head, I'd probably go with Father's Office.

But those aren't necessarily the best places in LA. Lucky Baldwins in Pasadena and Cafe Boogaloo in Hermosa Beach are at the very least equal to both places. LB is going to give you more European beers, Boogaloo has outstanding food and atmosphere along with a damn fine beer list, FO has probably the best domestic selection of the bunch, and Library probably sits between FO and Boogaloo on the beer list in terms of diversity and quality.

Unfortunately, there's nothing in Century City that's worth noting, at least not that I'm aware of. Of course, Santa Monica isn't terribly far away, so you've probably picked your two best options.
