Further reports from California tastings

Went from Santa Ynez up to Paso Robles. Paso Robles was a bit disappointing . Too many of the reds were 2011. 2011 was just not a good red year in Cali fornia. too cool, too wet too rainy so Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot partic ularly green and unpleasant. We did buy from Turley as their wines were old er vintages. Pinot Noir seems to still be good though.

Now in last day in Sonoma. Excellent Pinots here. Westside road leading int o Healdsburg has one after another tasting rooms with excellent Pinot. Many are from vineyards far and wide from Santa Barbara to Willamette Valley. B est of the bunch were Arista, Rochiolli, Bacigalupi, and VML. One last day in Sebastapol area and not Crimea.

My brother served a Paso Robles Cab. 2013 , Purple Cowboy. 25$. I'd cook with it, but it wasnt nice to drink. I was excited when I saw it, but it was very simple, fruity and grassy. Beringer Founders estate is better, while cheaper.

Luckily, he also had a brunello 2006 that was really good.
