Beer Fest Advice sought

I am heading to brewtopia this weekend in NYC. I am very much looking forward to tasting the various different micro brewers. I wondered if people had advice on preparing. I used to go to beer fests years ago but young children/money put it on hold for a little while.

I am planning on going out to eat before the festival so I won't have to eat hot dogs or other nasty food inside. I was wondering: - What is good pre-beer fest food? Burgers, fries, pasta? - I will be drinking 1 glass water per 1 pint beer consumed. Is that overkill?

Thanks Leo

Starchy foods are best as they absorb the alcohol well. Fries, pasta, jumbo-salty pretzels are good. Doing one-on-one with the water may be a bit much, but it won't hurt you.

Good beer deserves good food. And I am sure you can find something to match-up better than crap fast-food. Don't let the Chardonnay set win, choose your food wisely to compliment your beer styles. Steve W (in Aus)

I think the OP is looking not to get drunk at the festival. He doesn't want a beer and food pairing.

Right. I'm going to eat before the festival so I don't have to eat the fast food they offer. I'm hoping to enjoy tasting a lot of different brews without loss of function or a brutal next morning.

Phil, thanks for the advice. Leo

A far more reliable way of not getting bombed would be to limit the intake of alchohol. Sample the many beers, but don't down them by the quart and you will be able to enjoy the taste.

Good advice. I'm going to see what happens - there are going to be an amazing line of brewers that I just don't have a chance to buy here in NJ. Leo
