Beer in Beijing

Jul 17, 2004 2 Replies

I've got the opportunity to go to Beijing next weekend and have heard that there are a few brewpubs to be had. Can anyone confirm the existence of Paulaner Brauhaus, Hof Brauhaus and Duck and Drake(?) brewery and give me current addresses for these?

Thanks for your assistance.

this is the address of the Paulaner Bräuhaus:

Paulaner Bräuhaus Peking Kempinski Hotel BLC No. 50 Liangmagiao Road Toyang District

100016 Beijing

None of the other breweries you mentioned are listed on the site, but of course that doesn't mean they're not there :-) Have a nice trip.

The Kempinski hotel chain is German, which must explain the brewpub, and like most Euro chains hopelessly overpriced. If you're going to China get out of the damn hotels, which are typically for tourists too scared to try local establishments. If it was me I'd be at the local eateries trying the food every day (how many times in life will you get a chance to try authentic Chinese food, and no the kung pao chicken from the local Hunan Palace in Akron, Ohio, or wherever doesn't count). I'd be asking what local beers and wines are available with my meal (yes they make wine in China, no it's not just sake), and most likely there will always be Tsingtao available as a safe fallback option.

Enjoy the trip! I'm jealous, it sounds like fun. Maybe the OP could do a trip report?
