Belgian Beer

Visited Brasserie Beck in Washington, DC which was recently was recently opened by Chef Robert Wiedmaier. This Belgian/French brasserie has some fine food and much more importantly a good menu of belgian beers that I have only begun to explore. Indeed the owner is has taken beer to a new level with the hiring of a beer specialist and they are branching into beer pairing.

Here's the beer menu:

With the marked exception of the fruit beers, this is actually a very nice list, on which even a Belgian beerpub could be proud of. Now, if one goes to such an extent in research on good beers, can you explain me why the heck this menu has never seen a spelling control, and is simply riddled with some really obvious and some less obvious mistakes? But again, the list is very good, sporting some unusual, but excellent beers.

I think it is a retype by their PR person. The restaurant is about 1 month old and they are concentrating, rightly so on the restaurant and the website is secondary.

The ambience is a delight, food and service first rate and the beer list has a lot of opportunities for exploration. Chef Wiedmaier also owns the highly rated Marcels in the same city.
