Crown Lager - Australia's premium lager. Personally, I think it's crap. Nevertheless, there's a promotion under way trying to coin more suckers into paying high prices for a very mediocre lager. Promotion cards on restaurant tables state its made from best malt etc., and fruit flavour, and Pride of Ringwood hops. Now, most beer drinkers would know, fruitiness from yeast esters in lagers is not acceptable. However, it does have a strong citrus nose and taste. The sort of taste you would get from using American hops such as Cascade for finishing. You don't get that from Pride of Ringwood - the humalone levels are far too low, its only good for bittering. Have any other Aussies noticed the strong citrus flavour in this beer, even though, nothing is said on the cards other than Pride of Ringwood which is sits in very much in the background.

Crown lager is the beer least deserving of the premuim tag in the aussie beers that cost +$14 a six pack. (remember exchange rate) I personally cant tell the difference between it and fosters and wouldn't buy either if I was dying of thirst. But There are some good Australian ales and lagers.
Please dont judge Australian beer enjoyers on the strength of Crown. mick
