Camra's Good Beer Guide. Get one as soon as you get off the plane, or, if you've got the time to wait for shipping, etc., buy one in the US before you go. There used to be a US edition, with a different name- something along the lines of THE BEST PUBS IN GREAT BRITAIN, check Amazon, etc.

If you've got the room, bring me back some Worthington White Shield, Bass No. 1 Barleywine, Gold Label & Russian Imperial Stout (yeah, I know some of them don't exist anymore, but what they heck...)

Just as important as what is where. Where in England are you going?

Oh, Guess

You could try looking in supermarkets. They sell individual bottles of beer so you could buy some to try. If you're travelling around England you might find different beers in different areas. Some breweries do tours and samples. Enjoy your stay.
