Extra water in bottles

I made me a batch of beer, folks, first one in a while, using about double the amount of extract required. What if I just add some water to each bottle, say a third, during the bottling stage? Any negative effects, besides getting weaker, less alcoholic beer? Thanks in advance, boys!

Try asking this in rec.crafts.brewing, where the focus actually is homebrewing. This newsgroup is practically dead, down to maybe a couple of posters and the occasional lurker.

Consider that adding anything except freshly fermented wort (flat beer) to a clean bottle is a potential source of infection. If you must dilute, dilute with sterile water, and dilute the whole batch before bottling. Or brew up a lower-gravity wort and use that for dilution (but remember to ferment it out first to avoid bottle bombs).
