So you think that I've criticized someone for doing exactly what I've done myself? Please, enlighten me. I do so enjoy your helpful repartee. Or do you also like attacking newbies on their first posts?

Yep, sure am. Scary thing is, I'm smarter than you.

The difference is that one person is discussing something, and one person is ADVERTISING something.

I think it would have been perfectly tolerable if the post had make it clear that it was UK website, and it hadn't been phrased like an infomercial.

But you don't seem to have a very good eye for spotting advertising when you see it.

You know those 30 second messages which appear in the middle of TV shows? You probably think they are just nice people helping you with what products to buy.

Which really doesn't clear it up much. I took a brewery tour last week, their website is X, my favorite was their oatmeal stout, very smooth with a nice kick at the end, I took home cases of it. Highly recommend both tour and product to all and sundry. Discussion or advertising?

So advertisers proclaim at how badly they'll ship your stuff? That makes sense. And even if it were an advertisement, what on God's green earth makes you think that the advertiser gives a whit about dgs' opinion or less than witty "you're an idiot" commentary? Most advertisers like responses, even negative ones get them noticed. So if an advertisement, dgs just helped him out--rudely, but helped him out by highlighting a message I and others probably would have ignored. If not an ad and simply a reader posting a message about a beer related service, then it underscores just plain bad manners and unnecessary rudeness in a group that is mostly congenial. Either way dgs was out of line in my view. I expressed my view. Oh well.

Probably...but if it was a newbie, shouldn't that have been pointed out rather than the message the newbie did receive?

I have to say, this thread has gotten a LOT of attention. Had you simply not replied to it it would have been lost a long time ago. Press is press, there's no such thing as bad press.

Precisely one of my points. Thanks for stating it so well.

Just quietly, I think this group is overly harsh and looking for targets because of the lack of quality beer posts. I put up my (free and personal with nothing to sell) beer site a couple of months ago and got nothing but this kind of crap about it.

Stop reading the newsgroup and go drink some beer if you have nothing decent to say...
