Pumpkin Ale

In a moment of weakness, and due to the season, I tried a pumpkin ale this past Sunday. I prolly won't buy it again for home use, but it wasn't too bad, comparable to some of the slightly darker ales I've tried.

Anyway, for the central New Jersey / Pennsy-ites, if you are familiar with the Triumph Brewery in Princeton, they have opened up another place in New Hope in the Union Square just off Bridge Street. It's a little nicer, IMO, than the one in P'ton and the food is just as good with their usual selection of micro brews.

Which one?

I've kind of outgrown the Lakefront and Buffalo Bill's Pumpkin Beers, but I tried the Dogfish Head one this year and found it pretty decent (sorry, I don't do tasting notes).

You know, sometimes I hestitate posting because even though I carry a little pocket notebook, I rarely think to jot down things I may want to remember. So the answer is I can't recall. I can always use this as an excuse I was in Paris last month and tried and enjoyed several beers, but I ended up drinking pastis most of the time. It just seemed more appropriate. Anyway, I recall Leffes (or Jeffes), Adelscott which was very good, and one that was something like amelgrin. All of these were prolly Belgium, but all were very good. Whatever you drink, there is nothing like sitting at a Paris cafe and watching the world go by.

I don't know if anyone is interested, but I sent a bunch of postcards to a friend of mine who maintains a Hemingway-related web page, and he scanned them in. They are at

along with some of my fenominal mis-spellings.

One of my favorite beer spots in Paris is Au Trappiste at 4, rue St Denis. They have an amazing assortment of Belgian beers available on tap and bottled. I've always found the atmosphere fun and the barstaff very friendly and ready with suggestions as you make that crucial next beer decision.
