Sam Adams Winter Lager

Not bad. Does anybody know what style this beer is based on? Dunkleweizen??

Supposedly it's a dunkelweizenbock. It doesn't taste like one at all to me. I agree that it's not bad though.

Try the SA Porter. They are selling a holiday sampler right now that has some great offerings including a good cranberry lambic, if you like Belgians.

IMO if one likes good Belgian lambics, the SA cranberry "lambic" will be highly disappointing. It's not a patch on real lambic.

Plus, in addition, it's complete and utter crap.

I always thought the Honey Porter was their best brew. Didn't know it was still available. Guess it is only in the sampler box. I like the Double Bock also, but can't find it anymore.

I've always liked the Honey Porter too. I guess it's only available now in those damned sampler packs, like the SA Scotch Ale?

Sam's cranberry lambic is OK... but it is no lambic. If you like fruity beer it's not bad, but it pales in comparison to any of the true lambic ales. I'm a big fan of the Lindemans lambic's - they are very good, though a little spendy...

No, but I see anchor making a small!

It's false advertising for SA to call their cranberry beer a lambic.

There was a debate on Usenet many years ago as to what the cranberry beer should be called. The participants settled, I think, on "Cranberry Bog."

Yes, I really like the small beer. Cool style.

Not exactly. What happens is that more liquid is added to the soaked barley malt from which the high gravity wort was extracted, and a wort is extracted from that. It's called the "second runnings." There are a few other beers that are produced the same way. Homebrewers sometimes do this, too.

The brewing process thing, we can fix. The top-posting reply thing, though, that's yours to fix.

Who else makes a "second runnings" beer? I'd never heard of it. Thanks
