beckstones (Cumbria) brewery tap to close

The landlord of the Punchbowl, the Green, has demanded more rent - uneconomical for tenant.

We think he wants to convert to apartments.

Any ideas? Before it's too late?

Meanwhile, there is a mini Broughton festival this weekend, featuring the Punchbowl, the Manor Arms and POW Foxfield.

May be your last chance to drink at the Punchbowl and to taste up to six rare Beckstones beers at one visit.

The first article in the prog covers the potential loss of a local pub and the lies/inaccuracies told by the owner (a PubCo) in their planning application. It lasts about 10 mins and is worth a watch.

There's a lot of info on the rules and conditions that have to be met to allow a pub to be closed/sold for development. The PubCos employ third-party organisations to collect the info, which may be years out of date.

This particular case is shameful, but it looks as if the locals/landlord may win this one.

Makes you wonder how many other pubs have been 'illegally' closed due to (deliberately?) inaccurate info being supplied by the money-grabbing PubCos trying to reduce the mountain of debt they got theselves into.
