3. Zuelpicher Strasse: a road full of bars, restaurants, and dance clubs. Cheap and something for everybody.
4. Hohenzollernring: main boulevard, people cruising in their cars, lots of tourists, stylish
5. Altstadt: the old town at the Rhine riverfront has an older crowd. Businessmen and tourists.

Well, the one big advantage in Cologne is that you'll find drinkable beer (in the form of Kölsch) even in trendy bars, tex-mex restaurants and internet cafés. Granbted, nothing to match a Kölsch you'd get on grav dispense at Päffgen, but a good few notches above mass-market lager.

But real old-style beer cafés are few and far between, apart form the old town contingent... Lommerzheim, to that respect, is a magnificient aberration: a deliciously scruffy place, reminiscent of british country pubs, in a city where all beer places seem to have been refurbished (read : gutted out) extensively at some point in the last 20 years in the name of hygiene.

When in Düsseldorf, go to Zum Uerige and visit the lavatories, you'll see what I mean : modern, clean, shiny, but ultimately soulless.
