Sorry to do this via the ng but I can't find your email address.

A little while ago you said you'd had a talk from the Cask Marque rep. Would you be able to pass me his/her details on? I was wondering if we could get them to do something similar in Lancaster.

N.B.: Don't use the loobynet address, as it's got a vicious spamtrap which attacks first-timers, even when it's unmunged. If you could use cliff dot laine at tiscali dot co dot uk

Many thanks

Can I remind folks that to save non-CAMRA members getting bored by internal discussions, there are a number of CAMRA mailing lists set up for this purpose!

As below:

A new mailing list "CAMRABRANCHES" has been set up for the discussion of matters relating to active CAMRA members. Postings on matters ranging from membership, GBG selection, general campaigning plus many other topics are encouraged.

A mailing list for beer festival organisers "CAMRABF" has existed for some months.

To join send a blank email to snipped-for-privacy@yahoogroups.co.uk or go to

Both lists are only available to CAMRA members

Which appears not to be open to all CAMRA members. My application was refused - and the refusal decision is 'FINAL'.

Don't get paranoid Alan!

This can happen if you fail to provide the information requested - ie your membership number! The reject email tells you what to do in those circumstances, ie drop an email to me.

Please email me the communication that says anything about a "refusal decision is 'FINAL'"

Why am I paranoid if I say that my application was rejected?

I responded to the auto-email with my membership number and then a few days later got the rejection message.

Why try again if the email implies that a decision has been made about membership?

It was deleted shortly after being read.

Alan For the record, I maintain the list to which you refer. When you join, you are asked to provide your CAMRA membership number. If you fail to do so, you get a automated email asking you to resubscribe providing the information requested. In other words THERE IS NO SUCH EMAIL STATING that refusal is "final".

Like others, I am starting to wonder what your real agenda is.

I disagree but can no longer prove it as I deleted the email soon after I read it..

I was trying to join an official mailing list run by CAMRA - but if it's this much hassle it not worth the effort.

And yet you fail to carry out the simple instructions explaining how to do so. Strewth - you really make it hard for yourself. DID YOU FOLLOW THE INSTRUCTIONS TO SEND YOU CAMRA MEMBERSHIP NUMBER?

How on earth is providing your membership number an effort?

This is the rejection message as automatically sent out:

**********

Your request to join the CAMRABRANCHES mailing list has been rejected as we are unable to ascertain if you are CAMRA member.

If you would like send an email to with the required information and requesting to join again, we can process your request efficiently.

Please show me where the word final appears above?

Since January 21st 2005 only one person's membership application has been rejected - the user like you failed to supply an email address. However that user's email did not end in "amacleod.clara.co.uk"

To what email address did you send your membership number?

What email address did you attempt to subscribe with?

Please feel free to supply me this information by email.

Brett, this discussion is not only fred drifted and off topic, it is nothing to do with real ale.

Please take it for discussion on the mailing list you are discussing!

You mean the one that Alan says he can't access, and therefore would see anything about accessing? Catch 22?

Yup!

...^^^.......

;o)

Difficult as Alan has accused me of rejecting his application despite the logs for the list which so that is completely untrue.

Perhaps you can provide Alan with the information he needs to get on the mailing list in question? Maybe you'll have better luck than me.

you snipped this ....

Doesn't anyone on here have a sense of humour?

or irony?

Doesn't anyone here have sense of humour?

or irony?

I thought Catch 22 was the ultimate irony. Oh, well stick to computers rather than humour Steven.

That's what I was implying in the first place when I suggested Brett take it to an appropriate newsgroup.........

bleugh

Why would anyone want to humour Steven? ;o)

Actually, I've just noticed that someone (Brett?) changed the thread topic to 'mailing lists' although they are still threading in 'FAO Chris de Cordova'.

That's why I said the content was Fred Drifting OT, anyway.

Dunno. They do at work though. Keep reasonably happy. In case of emergency: "break glass and throw at problem". (Supply lots of coffee, and occasional chocolate biscuit.)
