Fullers London Porter

Well I tried my first few pints of London Porter on cask yesterday, and can say I absolutly enjoyed it. What a great beer. After my first disapointment of going to one of the advertised pubs, The Andover Arms in Hammersmith, only to find that they didn't have it, because it was going to cost them too much. I then found another Hammersmith pub that did, The Crosskeys, Black Lion Lane.

Now that I have sampled this delightfull drink, I cannot see why Fullers don't have this as a perminant beer during the winter time. It seems strange to me. I dont want to get into a debate about Youngs VS Fullers, but I do find that Youngs are better at promoting the unusual brands much better than fullers do. For instance, I can go into practically any Youngs pubs, and behind the bar, I will see most of them, and its not unusual for me to take a few Oatmeal stouts, or Double chocolates (I even like a bit of Dirty Dick now an then) home with me.

Fullers dont have to offer it at all its tied pubs, but I am sure a few here and there would be no problem to them at all. It just needs a bit of good advertising.

My recommendation to any who has not tried the Porter yet, is to get to your nearest advertised outlet ASAP. But check with them first, as you may end up disapointed.

The Andover is a tenanted pub - you are more to find these seasonal beers which are only available for a few weeks in Fullers managed pubs.

Because they already have Old Winter Ale and Golden Pride, which is going into more outlets this year.

And because dark draught beers don't sell well in London, unless they're called Guinness. I suspect that's the reason why we haven't seen London Porter on draught for so many years - that it didn't sell very well last time.

I just found London Porter at the beautiful Warrington Hotel pub in Maida Vale (Warrington Crescent, tube: Warwick Av). I agree, great beer!

Spotted LP also at the Pub inside Paddington Station...

I had a pint last night for the first time - agreed, it's one of Fullers best seasonal beers and well worth seeking out.

Now for the cask 1845, mmmm....

Just thought you might be interested, a friend of mine was in a pub near Liverpool Street (not sure of the name) where they are serving London Porter. Apparently the landlord is saying its very popular, and they at least will probably have it on until Christmas. I hope so. I also chatted to the barman at the Crosskeys pub, where I found my first pint, and he also said that is been very popular, even among the locals, but unfortunatly, they only have one barel left, which will probably run out by Monday/Tuesday.

Cheers

I think most Fullers managed pubs serving London Porter will take it off in the next week and replace it with cask 1845. I'm surprised Fullers will supply *anybody* for 2 more months, but it's not impossible. It'd certainly make a nice Christmas beer, probably more suitable than 1845!
