Its not a real ale pub, but if anyones interested, it closes this coming Saturday to be converted into a restaurant. I usually pass by non real ale pubs but as it was closing, I went in. Was confused at first by the fact that there was no pumps of any type on the bar until the barmaid pointed out 3 small keg taps at the back of the bar. A very basic pub.

I used to go there often in the mid-80s. Downstairs two wrinkled retainers behind the bar would spin vinyl LPs - mainly Frankie and Ella and the like - on the record player. Rent boys hung around the door and we'd take our pints into the little vaulted rooms at the back.

On Friday and Saturdays there'd be a guest disco for the pre-clubbers who you'd never see the rest of the week, tanking up before the Wagg opened down the end of the street.

Those were the days!
