How many of the companies mentioned in the article still brew beer at all? Very interesting article, but a sad comment on how the brewing industry has "developed" over the years.

I was at that tasting. Dorberman's description is pretty accurate.
Oddly, the worst of the vintage brews was the birth of Prince William commemorative ale at only 22yrs.

Thanks for posting. Very interesting. I remember reading in Decanter - 25 years ago - about a wine tasting of pre-philoxera bottles at Chateau Lafitte IIRC; but to read about beer in a similar context is extraordinary.

Hello all This is a curious coincidence, because in the IHT (International Herald Tribune) p22 on December 13th there was an article on aged Belgian beers entitled "Some beers really do get better with age". There is a linked article at

And a rather poor article it is, full of small inaccuracies and near- misses. Obviously written by someone well-meaning but clueless, who did not really understand the people he interviewed.

Did the report get the name of the bar wrong too? 2nd page picture, note says *Luminator* Bar, Antwerp. Shouldn't that be the *Kulminator*?
Quite a while since I've been to Antwerp, so could be wrong.
Yep, that's mistake #1. Or #2, if making Kirk pour that Chimay with so much foam that it won't fit in the glass counts as an error and not mere artistic licence.

Very sorry about the repeated postings.....
Finger trouble at this end. And yes, it is of course the Kulminator bar in Antwerpen. This is corrected in the URL which I provided for additional IHT info.
