Old GBBF programmes

Hi

Would any of our readers have access to a surviving programme from the Bingley Hall Birmingham GBBF 1983 programme? For personal reasons I am trying to rememember the beers that were available on the bar I was permanent staff on... I remember Marstons & Owd Rodger in particular but would be grateful if anyone might have the info on the full list....

I used to keep my programmes but had a major clear out a few years ago.... darn it!

Cheers All

Do you know, I've been looking at the cover of that programme for the past x years, but HWWLTBO had a bit of a shift round last week and it's now disappeared! I'll try and keep an eye out for it.

The other thing you could do is contact the bar manager - IIRC it was Sarah Edmondson and if you contact me off list I'll give you her details.

Divorces etc have a lot to answer for! I left my only copy of the Herefordshire Good Beer Guide - the one that Mark Haslam handwrote - with my first husband. It's a work of art and I do miss it!

Take care my wench

Er... the Bar Managers for that particular bar were Mike V... (name escapes me at moment... I've just come back from the Brown Cow) and Nig Filer!!!! (ie my ex ex) I was the permananent for the pair of them. The bar was one of the two bars that were run on two levels so we had a step up between the two... boy were my thighs firm by the end of the fest lol! It was opposite the snuff stall too! (Anyone else remember that?)

The reason I want to know is cos my new fella went to this GBBF as a squaddie and remembers doing the "whats your strongest beer" comment at several of the bars... he remembers drinking Lees Moonraker and thinks he drank Marstons OR as well - in which case I would have served him! But it would be nice to know which beers were on which bar! Fate taking a turn at an early stage though its taken till now to actually get us together!

Agreed on that.... not only have I lost most of my collection of GBG's ( D & I amalgamated most of my previous collection into one, selling the worst copies at car boots - - eBay wasnt around then! - tho hes going to have to obtain the 87 & 88 ones again... NO WAY was I parting with ones I was actually in as a publican! But I also need to try and obtain the 2000-2005 Olympia glasses too.... cos we only got one to take home (to save space at the time!)... so if anyone can help me there and will be at GBBF this year please drop me a line!

Cheers all

As it happens I have a copy of said programme in front of me now (never got round to having that clear-out!)

The centre pages plan has Marstons on Bar A, and combining that list with the "Breweries" pages gives the following... (hopefully nobody else will answer this while I'm typing!!).

You might have to view this in a fixed font to make any sense of it...

Aston Manor Mild 1037 Bitter 1039

Fox & Hounds Dasher Downing's Draught 1040

Malvern Chase Chase Ale 1040

Woods Bitter 1036.6 Special 1041.6

Palmer BB 1030.4 IPA 1039.5

Marstons Burton Bitter 1037 Pedigree 1043 Merrie Monk 1043 Owd Rodger 1080

Gibbs Mew Wiltshire Bitter 1036 Bishop's Tipple 1066

Southsea (not listed!)

Taylor-Walker Bitter 1037

Chudley Bitter 1038 Lords Strong Ale 1050

Pitfield Bitter 1038 Hoxton Heavy 1048

Castle Eden Castle Eden Ale 1041 Durham Bitter 1037

Whitbread (not listed *!)

King & Barnes Sussex Mild 1034.9 Bitter 1034.9 Festive 1050.5

Youngs Bitter 1036 Special 1046 Young John's Ale 1030

Baileys Best Bitter 1040

  • I'm assuming these will have been from the various separate breweries then in the empire!

Hope this helps

Thats absolutely Brilliant thank you ever so much.

Funny how we didnt have "regional" or "alphabetical" bars in those days. I was presuming that all the stuff I had was from the midlands. but I do remember that as a 2 level bar the smaller indies were facing in towards the centre whilst the lower bar - where I spent most of my serving time was the Larger Breweries like the Marstons, Youngs & Castle Eden

Thanks once again for such a speedy result!
