Peculier Laurie the Real Ale Kitten

Recently my wife and I found 3 abandonned kittens and we gave them a home (Moe, Laurie & Curly, 1 male/2 female). Laurie is the subject kitten. One night shortly after we found them I was spending some time with them drinking a glass of port. Laurie started to drink it. Thinking this was not good for a 4 pound kitten I stopped her immediately. I put the port in front of the other two kittens but they (as all the previous cats we have had over the years) turned their nose up on it.

This past week I was drinking a pint of my bottled conditioned Old Peculiar facsimle (made at a brew on premise business here in New Jersey from a recipe in the Roger Protz book "Brew Your Own British Real Ale at Home"). I left my pint alone for a second to do something and the next thing I knew Laurie was lapping it up at a frantic pace. Still being quite small I didn't think this was good for an "underage" kitten so I stopped her. Again I put the pint under the noses of her 2 siblings but they turned their noses up on it and walked away.

Does anyone else know of a cat that likes beer and wine?

I am afraid to fall asleep with a half consumed pint for the fear of finding a drunk or even worse dead 6 pound kitten.

I have 2 other beers I have made (facsimles of Gales Festival Mild and HSB). I will have to see if Laurie will like these as well. I hope if I put Bud in front of her she will show some style and turn her nose up on that sh*t.

Could we take that as some kind of proof that CAMRA members are re-incarnated as cats?? :-)

My three can't stand the smell of beer or wine, so your moggie certainly looks the exception!

My old cat doesn't like beer either, though he's partial to some strange things, like Christmas Cake, cheese & mushrooms. JL

Cake, cheese (particularly the strong and smelly) and mushrooms seems normal.

It's when they move on to mustard sauce and chilli you begin to worry (particularly in low ventilated areas...)

In Laurie's case possibly, but she hasn't donned the kitty sandels yet ;-).

Now for an update she did try my clone BC Festival Mild. She took a few tongue fulls but then walked away. Either she didn't like it as much as the Old Peculier or she wasn't in a drinking mood. As far as my BC HSB I won't know about that one until around New Years as I had a diverticulitis attack Monday and am on antibiotics for the next 10 days, which means no beer for me for the next 10 days 8-(.

Hah! Just because you can't drink any beer is that a reason to witholds the brew from his cat. 'Bruce aint drinking, so nobodys drinking', Selfish or what. ;0)

It's like when the other half goes on a diet and all those nice (slightly fattening) items go missing from the fridge, cupboards and, if you investigate closely, the shopping list.

My sympathies. At least my enforced absence from work didn't carry with it a prohibition on alcohol - just an injunction to drink more:)))))

BTW check your meds on the internet (Medline) - it may be that you're on the sort of antibiotics that don't clash with alcohol! (They do exist)

Anyway I called in at work today to find 3 more bottles of OP on my desk - a concerned colleague wanted me to have a Merry Xmas. Such concern is nice, especially when my colleague works for the Healthy Living Centre!
