Preston suggestion

This is my task:

"I'd mainly like somewhere where we could talk. So how about a good quiet-ish pub, no loud music; possibility of some food maybe but still down to earth? I can't drive so that affects where I can get to."

Anywhere in Preston you can think of?

The Black Horse in Friargate springs to mind. It's quiet, multi-roomed, and has an incredibly well preserved (Edwardian?) interior.

On the other hand, I'm not sure it does food, and I notice it's not in next year's Good Beer Guide, so, I'm afraid it's just sprung out of mind again!

Is being in the Good Beer Guide actually worth anything? I'm not saying that places listed are bad, just that not being listed isn't a bad thing - there's plenty of decent pubs "dahn sarf" that aren't listed because the landlord has fallen out with the local branch of CAMRA, because the local committee is homophobic, etc.

Thank you - the Black Horse it is!
