Slightly ot - old and new counties

Mar 05, 2009 1 Replies

What's brewing dropped through the letter box yesterday and as ever there's a report from Cask Marque about additions and deletions to their members.

I noticed yesterday that they do use the new (ie post 1974) list of counties as Merseyside and Greater Manchester get a mention.

However there are inconsistencies there - at first glance there is one addition in Greater Manchester . However, further investigation reveals that the Cheshire list include two more - one in Stalybridge and one in Cheadle Hulme, and that the Lancashire entries include one in Wigan, one in Leigh and one in Bromley Cross.

I'm not bothered which list they use but I do think they should be consistent.

Is it to do with postal addresses? Belvoir Castle for example is in Leicestershire , it's address is Grantham, Lincolnshire and it has a Nottingham postcode.
