Beer Appreciation Books

Sep 23, 2005 1 Replies

I'm thinking of getting a book on beer. Out of what's in print in the US, Jackson has a couple that look possibly useful: "Ultimate Beer" and "Great Beer Guide". I'm not looking so much for a history book as just a good guide to beer styles and varieties, tasting guidelines, that sort of thing.

Would anyone like to share their thoughts on these books, or suggest other books that are better?

Thanks, Alan

You're selling yourself short if you ignore the role of history in defining beer styles. In that light, I'd recommend Jackson's _Beer Companion_ if you can find it. Barring that, the _Great Beer Guide_ doesn't look bad.
