How much does the licence cost?

Hi everyone, I'm thinking about opening a restaurant in Houston, TX. Can anyone on this group tell me what beer and wine license (no liquor) approximately costs? Thanks in advance. Carey in Houston, TX

Let me get this straight. You're going to invest serious money in opening a restaurant business, and you haven't already checked with the authorities about licensing regulations and costs? Wow. I'm seriously glad that it's not my money that's backing your venture.

Oh, Guess

Where's it say that? All it says is THINKING.

Isn't that what she's trying to do RIGHT HERE??? Granted, this is hardly the best place to find out this information, but give her credit for doing some kind of fact finding.

Wow. Way to flame the newbies. Just what kind of exclusive club are you defending here?

I'm reasonably sure that the City Hall department that deals with food/entertainment/restaurants/bars/etc can give you precise costs.

You may want to check with some local restaurants about the politics of an alcohol license in the region. In some municipalities, it is more difficult to add a license to an existing business then to start a new business with a license. Some municipalities have enacted restrictions on new licenses and the only way to serve alcohol is buy buying an existing license. If you expect your restaurant to someday need the beer and wine business to survive or make the profits you expect, then you should be sure of the local political climate first. The local owners can also tell you of any related but non-published expenses to expect. To paraphrase Rodney Dangerfield: Let me assure you, your not dealing with the Boy Scouts.
