World's best selling beers

After a discussion with a friend, I would like to know which are the world's best selling beers, preferably in order by volume or sales etc.

I would like facts, rather than opinions, please.

Thanks.

Yeah- specifically Bud Light- which actually outsold Budweiser a few years ago- almost to the embarassment of A-B (they started rewording their promo material to say something like "the Budweiser beers" or "the Budweiser family of beers" are the best selling in the world.)

Nah, there's a big dropoff with A-B's sales (perhaps because they don't tend to be brewed/contract brewed outside the US?)- altho' it's always surprising to me that Busch and Natural Light do so much better than the former #2 A-B brand, Michelob. (But, then, I'm in a beer market that the two cheapie brands probably aren't big sellers. I mean, I don't even REMEMBER "Natural Light" as anything other than a stop-gap brand of "Light" beer back when A-B didn't want to cannibalize Bud sales (altho' it was referred to as "Bud Light" anyway) but I see that it's real big in the "heartland" where it's even got it's own nickname "Natty Light".)

Thanks but not for $5k, i don't :-)

The problem is, without a definitive chart available, all I have to go on is a number of unchecked references to Budweiser and Bud Lite on blogs, postings etc.

I had guessed, prior to searching, that it *might* be Bud - but that much I can do myself - hence the need for facts, not opinions.

Try this (a couple years old, but not much has changed) -

Although this is probably true, you do need to remember that 'Budweiser' is a different beer in different markets. In Britain it's primarily a 5% ABV bottled beer, in Ireland it's primarily a 4.3% draft beer, and that's just the difference in strength never mind taste. I'm sure there are lots of other differences across the world.

'Budweiser'

Yeah, well, then #14's gonna take a hit, if one's judging by that criteria, given the 17 (or is it 19? Or is it only 4 "basic") different Guinnesses...

Wha? I can get that stuff here! (Tho' it's sometimes past it's prime and I only buy the Porter, regularly, anyway).

And, I saved you over $5000 (who knows how many bob or shillings or pounds or Euros that is!). You're in the UK, right? I'd much rather have a Bass No. 1 Barleywine or, at least, a Worthington White Shield.

This is from Impact Databank, as printed in "Market Watch" magazine (but it must be for the USA, not the world):

The Top 10 Beer Brands Today (millions of barrels) - based on 2005 data:

  1. Bud Light (38.8)
  2. Budweiser (26.1)
  3. Miller Lite (17.7)
  4. Coors Light (15.2)
  5. Natural Light (8.3)
  6. Corona Extra (7.6)
  7. Busch (6.6)
  8. Busch Light (5.8)
  9. Miller High Life (5.0)
  10. Heineken (4.7)

Incredible.

Is there an ingredient-to-sales ratio published anywhere? How about a range-of-flavors-to-sales or, god forbid, a BTU-to-sales ratio?

Here's an estimate.

Bud Light flavor-to-sales ratio: 1 : 180,700,000 Bells Hopalicious flavor-to-sales-ratio: 55 : 1

There is no God.

But if there is, God must be neck-deep in Anheuser-Busch stock.

Here's another way to look at it. All the craft beer brewed in the US (thousands of beers from the 1400+ craft breweries) add up to about the same quantity of beer as

"The Brewers Association estimates 2006 sales by craft brewers at over

6,600,000 barrels..."

Ok, so you prefer the English stuff. I'll keep the Zywiec then ... :-)

Somewhere I've seen a breakdown of the 6.6 million barrels by brewery, at least for the top 10 US breweries ... anyone have that handy?

I wonder how many barrels the total US homebrew production is?

Cheers, John

At least in the USA, beer sales closly follows currect advertising or pretty bottles.
