cleaning after brewing

hi all,

I did a ginger beer last weekend and when I cleaned out the drum after bottling, there was a sticky residue. I cleaned it out with hot water and detergent but there still is a little brown colouring on the drum.

IS that normal/bad?

Any tips on getting rid of the brown residue or it it OK?

TIA,

JOe

Residue or coloring? Plastic stains, but there's a) nothing you can do about it and b) no reason to worry about it.

If it's residue, use B-bright or Oxyclean. If that doesn't do it, use beer line cleaner - that'll take the "white" off the white plastic.

I think it's just a brown colouring... and I just wanted to make sure it wasn't going to affect my next batch. \thanks for the advice JOe

How about filling the drum with hot water, adding a little bleach, and letting it sit overnight? That cures most cleaning problems I've had. (Rinse it well)

Hi, I assume you are using a plastic drum? Problem with these is that if you use boiling water to clean them, then over time the surface becomes pitted, and so holds colour.

if you have cleaned it throughly and this colour persists, then i dont see a problem.although someelse may disagree.

It is amazing if you get a new drum how easily it cleans after a wash compared to a old one. Hence I ditch my drum every couple of years.
