how do I calculate the alcohol but taking into account the temperatures...

Hi,



What is the calculation for working out the alcohol?



If my SG was 1.040 @ 26 degrees C and the FG was 1.004 @ 20 degrees



The formula - or a site that takes into account the temperature, as all the ones I've seen do not bother to include that in the calculation - would be terrific :)

(OG-FG)*105«W ABW*1.25«V therefore (OG-FG)*130=~(% alchohol by Volume) Everything is calibrated from hard physical data so a theory based on temperature can be quite metaphysical in that it doesn't have to act linearly and can act quite variedly given all the factors so they just assume on room temperature (66.6F on mine, go figure) as those are the expected conditions of use.

Try raising or lowering the temp of the final product, failing that, write APPROX in front of what ever you come up with, and have a brew.

You need to correct your readings for temperature according to you hygrometer and then calculate..

A couple of ways of figuring your alcohol content.

1) Take the difference between your original gravity and your final gravity and divide by 7, i.e. 1.055-1.013B gravity points/ 7 = 6% 2) Look at the the scale on your hydrometer that reads in %. After fermentation, take another reading and read the percentage again, and the difference between your original and final percentages is your alcohol content. Correct your readings for temperature differences before you do the math, though.
