Wasabi

Has anyone made any wasabi beer or tasted some? I have a friend in Japan who loves the stuff and I've been thinking about trying to brew some up. I get the feeling that getting the right taste and intensity will be a bit more difficult than just adding wasabi to the boil or even dry-wasabiing the beer.

Any thoughts?

My only thought, Ben, is that that sounds absolutely foul. I'm sure there must be something to commend it, or it wouldn't be done, but . . .

wasabi?

in beer?!

rather you than me.

That really sounds nasty. I like a nice wine with steak every now and then, but I dont want to put steak in my wine.

Reminds me of that Happy Days episode where Fonz had a cavity and was putting all of his food into a blender: burger, fried, milkshake and all!

LOL

That's one of the reasons I was hoping someone had tried it. I can imagine that a slight wasabi tang to a beer might be decent. Maybe an IPA with a slight edge to it.

I imagine it would have similar issues to chile beers though. It would end up either too strong or too weak for most people's taste.

I'll have to wait until he imports some from Japan before bothering to replicate it.
