What home brewing kit to buy? Help!

Dec 23, 2006 3 Replies

Hi everyone,

My boyfriend is interested in learning how to brew beer. I thought I would get him a kit for Christmas. Does anyone have any recommendations as to which kit to buy? Or, should I buy things individually? I have no idea what I need at all, I just thought this would be a nice gift for him. Any help would be so much appreciated. Please help! Thank you.

Both are very helpful for the new brewer.

I've been incredibly happy with the "Basic starter kit" I got from Northern Brewer.....though I have since added a 5 gallon glass fermenter to my setup to a allow for secondary fermentations. Anything in this range from almost any supplier would be a pretty awesome gift if your boyfriend has expressed any interest in home brewing.

A.A.

Cutting it a little close hey. Anyhow, your best bet is to try to find a homebrew supplier near you. You should be able to find one in the phone book or do a web search for "homebrew ". If you can get to a bookstore you could get him a book on homebrewing and then get the equipment later. A good choice for the book would be "How To Brew" by John Palmer. I believe the current edition is the 3rd. Hope that helps. Cheers,
