Baozhong Recommendations

Dear all,

I was wondering if I might trouble you for any recommendations that you might have for this year's baozhong crops (or previous years, if still available). I haven't come across many reviews of BZ this year, excepting Tea Logic's ever-excellent notes on 2006 Pinglin BZ.

Many thanks, and toodlepip,

Hobbes

Me too. Until I find a good tasting Oriental Beauty I think the Queen Mother didn't have good taste in tea.

Have you talked to Stephane Erler? I've gotten very good baozhongs from him.

In fact, I might just have some now.

Imperial Tea Court's (2007) is quite nice: sweet, silky, not too much astringency and holds up well to 5/6 infusions becoming more delicate and sweeter. Expensive ($20.00), but worth it. Much fuller and deeper in character from last year's. Taiwan, of course. Tea Spring's is very good, as well. Shen

Great stuff, thanks all.

Alex, I've enjoyed the 2006 versions from Stephane, but haven't read anything of his 2007 selections, yet. Do please let us know what you make of them.

Shen, thanks for the pointers - somehow, I've never ordered from TeaSpring. On a whistlestop tour of their site, I don't see any baozhong, though - nor do their searches respond to "pouchong". Any tips?

Jim, have you tried the Xinzhu County OB from Stephane? Very tasty. I'm always open to new recommendations in this area, too.

Thanks again, and toodlepip,

Hobbes

Hobbes, Here's the site reference; however, it is showing "temporarily out of stock". It was good stuff. Hope they get more.

I was gifted with a bit off Stephane's, as well, which is excellent. Shen

Ah, thank you. What a pity to miss the TeaSpring boat, I shall keep my eyes on them for more.

Do you happen to know the name of Stephane's baozhong that you enjoyed? He usually has quite a range.

Thanks again, and toodlepip,

I've got to order some more. The stuff I have doesn't compare in the slightest to the crisp smooth florals of my other Taiwan teas. If it is suppose to be delicate or gentle I have that. I have a suspicion I'm still going to be disappointed. You seem to know the taste. Is it something worth seeking out as a distinct Taiwan taste or just another GaoShan at best? My brother-in-law is moving to Taiwan. I think he lives at StarBucks.

Hi, Jim,

The Xinzhu County OB isn't really recognisable as a gaoshan wulong - it's more like drinking a liquidated Christmas pudding. Depending on how you feel about Christmas pudding, this may or may not be a good thing. :)
