Boh tea/getting tea from overseas

Me again, lol...I have one more question if anyone knows. I placed an order with Boh tea (Malaysia) this morning, this is the first time I've ever ordered tea from a vendor not in the US. I sent them an E-mail with a question on the 15th and have not received an answer to that one. Their site was secure etc. so I'm not worried about that. Does anyone happen to have done business with them before (or even a Chinese tea seller) and, Michael, appropo of what you said about a lot of paperwork for getting tea from overseas, has anyone actually had trouble getting their shipments of tea from other countries into the US lately? I have no idea if I would need to pay an import duty or what...I've never done this before. Do I need to go to the wharf to pick up something shipped by sea? Please share your experiences.

Thanks so much everyone for your help and advise.

Melinda,

I mention the paperwork parenthetically because two vendors mentioned it to me. Essentially, it is their issue more than ours, but it does slow things down and adds expense. Do you have a web site for Boh Tea? You can post it here.

I've been to the Boh tea plantation in the Cameron Highlands. It was a really interesting tour, though the tea was lacking in my opinion. Their Cameronian Gold is a fairly bland and unexciting tea which I bought only because we share a name.

Cheers,

Cameron

Cameron, I really like it as a basic black tea. It's not complex, it's not really anything but a good stout cuppa, with milk and sugar, which is what I was looking for. :) I love Assams and keemuns, but sometimes I just want something basic. And it doesn't seem bland to me...now National Cup seems bland, and some Ceylons seem bland (probably because the ones I've tried don't seem astringent enough for me), and Lipton seems bland to me...but this seems better. More like a PG tips kinda tea, which I am fond of :: shrug:: It's very cool that you got to see their plantation though, I've enver seen any plantation, I think that would be a wonderful experience. Did you see where they were growing little individual specialized gardens? I ask because on their website they have several "special" teas that they produce, apparently they're different from the regular stuff. I ordered one of each of those too, to try.

I hope to hear from them soon, since I still haven't gotten any reply back and the E-mail is the only way I can contact them, as far as I know. Thanks everyone.

who send tea directly from China and never had any shipment problem. Actually, it's all depend on the vendor. As a customer, you don't have to worry about it- as long as you are private consumer rather then a commercial buyer. Thanks.

P.S. I brought two big full big luggages of tea with me in US and they didn't try to charge me any tax or anything, except one or two little questions.

I have been tempted to purchase tea from the Boh website but concluded the shipping just wasn't worth it. I have found a couple other places that sold Boh tea. One of those was the Carnelian Rose Tea site, but I don't see Boh/Cameronian tea listed there anymore. I also like Boh as a basic, mellow tea (I visited one of their plantations and sampled their tea when I was a kid, so it has a certain nostalgia value), but have only tried their more generic variety. From their website it seems that they have several grades that I would be curious to taste.
