YunnanSourcing importing questions

I need to know something from those who have successfully ordered personal use tea from YunnanSourcing...did you fill out the FDA declaration or did they or how was it handled if at all? It keeps happeneing to me that I will order something from overseas but the people I am buying from don't mention the paperwork or they don't communicate with me in a timely manner and I have trouble figuring out what needs to be taken care of. Would someone too, who has actually ordered puer from China and actually filled out the customs forms and/or FDA forms, tell me exactly what they did? It's very confusing to me and when I call the FDA help people they are not much better at helping me.

Correct me if I am wrong: There are two branches of paperwork that need to be filled out, Customs (CBP) and FDA. But the customs is only if it's worth more than $2000 (unless it's commercial or restricted etc. but I'm talking tea here). ANyone know any different?

The FDA paperwork needs to be done and needs to have a date on which the package is going to be mailed. This is where I've had trouble because I don't get timely answers back from sellers as to when they are going to mail the package, they always tell me after they've mailed it at which point it's too late to afix that FDA number to the outside of the package.

I went through this for a pack of tea from Malaysia about a year ago and my entry for the package never showed up in my FDA account even though I saved it and everything. I have gotten small packages of tea from China with no problem, but YunnanSourcing is the first Ebay seller I've dealt with for tea and that's why I'm a little nervous. I'm not saying they're not on the up and up, I'm just saying that I don't know that they would know that they would need to mention any paperwork to me. I don't like playing russian roulette with my tea and that's what I feel like I'm doing right now.

Melinda, I privately shipped Pu-Erh and other teas (up to 20kg) from China to the US and elsewhere, just declared it as "tea" on the customs form, the guys at the post office had to watch me packing it (kind of a requirement? in Kunming) and that was it. Never had any problems/complaints, everything just went fine.

Hmpf, just let me add that over here in Darjeeling we tried to import LED torches from 2 different chinese companies registered with eBay China. Both had a reasonable feedback rating, all email correspondence went fine, until they just disappeared from eBay, luckily before we sent the money.

I've ordered puerh from eBay sellers based in china and jing, and had no problems regarding FDA or customs paperwork. The packages showed a declaration of "green tea."

Every Ebay seller I've ordered from China send by China Post. They fill out the Customs Declaration at that end. The description is 'tea' and sent as a 'gift'. It looks like the contents is inspected before shipping because they all have China Post wrapping tape. Your first couple of shipments may be inspected at our Customs but I think sending and receiving addresses are computerized so that becomes the security level because my packages aren't opened anymore. It seems the FDA requirement fell by the wayside or maybe just a requirement from Muslim countries if you know what I mean. You just have to wait which is about 30 days SAL from Kunming.

No problem on two orders from Yunnan Sourcing shipped to CT, the only English on the box was my address and one had copies of a customs form in both Chinese and English rubber banded to the box that the seller had completed. All arrived in the past 2 weeks

Excellent, thank you everyone. Like I've said before, I don't mind following rules and filling out paperwork but it makes it tough when I have to coordinate with sellers via email. I must be in a minority of people worried about this but spending that amount on tea and risking not getting it is not my idea of a fun time.

Melinda, I replied to you twice, once two weeks ago and once a few days ago. Am I ending up in your SPAM filter?

I've also had no problems with getting tea from this source to Australia. All my parcels get opened by customs because they have food in them - but otherwise they have arrived ok. One parcel got sent by surface mail and was really late, but I'm inclined to blame that on the post office rather than the sender. These things occasionally happen.
