DAMN!

Was using Foojoy's Monkey-Picked Ti Kuan Yin, but just bought some $100/lb. Ti Kuan Yin with nothing in English on the box. Jesus. This stuff is incredible. I'll keep using Foojoy though. SAVE this stuff. Wow.

Sorry, but the box is gone, and I have no digital camera or other means of producing that close-up of a photo. Or of placing such a photo on a website. Now that I think about it, I believe the box did say Chinese Famous Tea on it, and the aluminum "decanter" type container inside had a red ribbon wrapped around the neck that said Ti Kuan Yin in gold. Having tasted this, I'm honestly afraid to tell anyone where I got it, but here goes... Kim Hung Market, in Houston TX. I *think* there were three boxes left, $24.00+tax/125 gms. There was some Oolong next to it that was even more expensive... They used to have a half-pound tin of Oolong for $100.00 back behind the counter, but they sold that.

Hope this helps. It's great stuff.

I recently came across an all Chinese inscription TKY 200g/$10 except for the brewing instructions which said can be repeated 10 times which I like because it is more green than any so far. I've seen some TKY for 125g/$40 which is too expensive for me to try and I've given up on finding something exceptional. How do you like the Foojoy? I recently got their silver bud 71g/$17 which is the only second commercial brand I've seen next to the flowery pekoe white tea from Fujian Export Corporation which is less expensive. Thanks for the report.

I would, with my limited experience, classify the Foojoy Monkey-Picked TKY as "exceptional." It is 95% as good as the no-name at slightly less than half the price. Do you like Bourbon Whiskey? There is one called Maker's Mark which is 95% as good as Blanton's (which is a single-barrel whiskey, meaning it is not a blend of any kind) at slightly less than half the price. And the secret to Maker's Mark is known only to the distillers at Star Hill Farm, in Kentucky. Whatever it is they do, it works. Maker's Mark is an exceptional day-to-day whisky. Blanton's (or any other single-barrel whiskey) is for truly special occasions and for gifts to people you really, really want to impress. Foojoy Monkey-Picked TKY is the tea I will drink on a regular basis, and I am grateful that I found it. The no-name will be saved for those times when I just have to have a truly celestial experience. It is absolutely incredible, but the Monkey-Picked is close enough that I will be more than happy with it on a day-to-day basis.

Sorry to be so verbose. The subject just seems to deserve it.

Foojoy just recently started their signature series of Chinese teas. Comparatively they're not cheap but they cover the swath of mainland teas. Some hard to find commercially like MaoFeng and Silver Needles. I think this is indicative of a current push in other available commercial Chinese teas to bring the best to the shelves. I think there is an upscale commercial tea market willing to pay the price if the tea is worth it. Of course I know there is more cheap good stuff than expensive great stuff but when you find either the price is worth it.
