Who's drinking what right now?

Picked this up for the first time a couple of weeks ago. Liked it a lot.

Wasn't the vatted controversy about pretending, at least by appearance, to be a single?

The Lagavulin 12 CS showed up here in B.C. recently and I'm very happy with it.

And an OB Caol Ila 12YO is now available here. Had my first taste a few days ago and it will join the parade of Islays through my cupboard.

The Trader Joe's 10 YO Macallans is a bargain at ~USD 20 per 750 ml bottle, so that's my "daily dram." Some of the others have only one or two drams in the bottom of the bottle.

I'm a huge fan of Caol Ila and Highland Park and am never without some of each.

I consider myself a novice at single malt whisky, I've only been into them for about a year,

Been switching between a'bunadh, Highland Park 12 and Ardbeg 10. It has been cold here in the evenings and all of these warm me up nicely:)

Bowmore 17 yo -- I bought the bottle almost a year ago, after having tried and become fascinated by the 12 yo. I had a few drams in a couple of days, and decided I was not that impressed. So I filled the remaining 50 cl in two

25 cl bottles and forgot about it. I opened one 25 cl a week ago: Now I have given it some time to breathe (after pouring two drams the day I reopened it), and that has done an enourmous amount of good. .......and, well, now I just love it! Think maybe I'll go for the CS next time (?).

Hi Dave,

Sounds like you're managing just fine Dave but the Uigeadail is a real treat and would make a nice addition to your cabinet.

You're right about the Kildalton -- it's a limited, distillery only bottling for the Ardbeg Committee and they don't ship to North America.

Talisker 18 will eventually make its way over here but it does seem to be taking it's time since being launched in the UK last fall. Very much worth the wait, however, if you're a Talisker fan, the 10yo and 18yo make a great pair on the sideboard.

Pretty much the same, my wife said, but there are small, but fleeting differences hard to pinpoint. So, I can't even say which one is the best. I bought the Macallan only yesterday on the boat from Denmark to Norway, having become somewhat disenchanted with the onesided sherried Aberlour. But comparing the two, I was hard put to name a winner. Anders

While in Scotland last summer, I tasted some of the first-batch Uigedail, and some of the stuff they bottled later, after the first batch had run out. Head-to-head tasting. The difference was startling. The first batch was complex, with a punch of the aggressive young stuff, followed by seemingly nothing, only to be replaced by the development of the old, mature whisky on the palate. The later stuff was still interesting, but it seemed to lack the final stage of the old whisky doing its job on the palate. Seems like they'd run out of the old component. Or is it only my impression?

The one I got about a year ago in Amsterdam was not that interesting. It had some sherry mellowness and a few twinges of peat, but my Ardbeg 10 is not must more assertive, but also more interesting, and far, far better value.

I imagine you're quite right Rajmund, I drank from the first batch as well and have heard reports since that the subsequent bottling was not a patch on the first, likely getting stingier with the old stuff. ;o)

And yeah, the 10 Year Old is better value by a country mile...

Still, I really enjoyed that first run of Uigeadail.
