Have you heard of these tea varieties ?

Hello,

I was trying to order some Chai tea from a new vendor online (new to me, at least) and in perusing the site I came across several teas I had not heard of before:

P G Tips

Typhoo

Yorkshire Gold

Can anyone help with what these are?

Thanks for any assistance,

Jay

That's an easy one. These are all British blended teas. They are roughly the equivalent of Lipton's in the US.

Typhoo and Yorkshire Gold are stronger than Lipton's- the Yorkshire Gold will definitely keep you awake and going. PG Tips is a bit more Liptony in my opinion (however good that is). I find that Typhoo is really good as iced tea with a bit of lemon and sugar, and perhaps some mint. I keep it around for when I'm sick. I first came across it in college, when one of my dormmates brought it back with her from London.

Typhoo tea is sold by Premier Foods and is a mass market tea, usually in bags. It is drunk with milk and often sugar. Yorkshire Gold is blended by Taylor's of Harrogate, is sold in tea bags and loose and is a good breakfast type tea. A cheaper variety is just Yorkshire tea, a better one is Taylor's English Breakfast tea. The last one is splendid. All are British brands.
