How long do you wait

Just out of curiosity, when you send an E-mail to a tea company/provider, how long do you wait for an answer before you send a reminder or give up?

If they have an 800 number, I'd call that if you don't hear in 48 hours. I had to call a pressure cooker vendor's 800 number to get order completion. If you have a problem, being on the phone with someone who can sort it out is way better than trying to sort it out by email.

Vendor of just about anything, for me, after about a week, they better have a damn good excuse or I probably won't ever deal with them again - after i eventually get some satisfaction.

But i have a personal vendetta against companies that solicit email that they don't intend to respond to.

It was to an overseas tea plantation who also sells their teas online...so calling isn't an option. I'm trying to get info from them on whether they've had any problems mailing orders to the US and if they have any advice for me in that regard. They've been late before, but it does make it very frustrating when they can't be called.

Where are they ? It's possible that they only hire staff on a part-time basis and that there is nobody in their office right now. For instance, in Japan, in this season nobody sells tea, because last year's tea is already sold, and this year's won't be available till April-May (at the best). Normally customers are aware of that and don't try to order when it's impossible. Maybe you should ask about the mailing issue to a retailer in the same country, they are probably answering the mails year round.

If any business doesn't respond w/i a week, I take my business elsewhere unless I'm aware or made aware of mitigating factors. I'm used to receiving replies w/i 24 hours, excluding weekends, holidays, etc.

I can't help but think that issues such as holidays, weekends, country customs, etc. taken into account, that if they can't answer your email, well... I wouldn't be confident they would fill the order.

For me, I'm learning about catalogs. Yes, I'm going to order anything over the 'net, but I like having print catalogs as well. Upton and Harney & Sons were clearly waiting for me to ask, since they already had the label printed, etc. - I received each within 3 or 4 days! Whittard, which I didn't realize would be coming from the UK, got here in a week. Adagio, still waiting - it's been a month. There are others, but I distinctly remember when I requested those 4, so know the time frame.
