Looking for elegant looking "podstakanniki" Russian tea glass

Dec 17, 2004 16 Replies

I am looking for some elegant looking "podstakanniki" Russian tea glass. I know Alex already talked about Sovietski collection but their selection is very limited. Alex or anyone know any other website who has a larger selection? Thank you advance.

I did a Google search on a Russian word and this is the most fancy (ridiculously so) one I found.

Good luck getting it through Russian customs.

$286 for a single podstakannik? SHEESH!

They're rather an odd piece. I've never really seen anyplace that had a "good" selection. Typically, it's one or two styles.

But here's another expensive one. $350. Sheesh!

Ripon,

They're both awful, and the prices are insulting, IMHO. Yours -- the ones with the waist of which Sasha spoke earlier -- serve well in place of the usual glass pitcher. But yours have some gold design features I could do without. I'll bet those simple Turkish glasses in that form, once found, will cost next to nothing. Sheesh.

Still taking the cold meds, Michael? I'm not Ripon. ;)

Michael/Derek/Alex:

The prices are not worth it with the design. I agree my Turkish glasses are simple and nicer. Thanks Alex for warning me about Russian customs. I was burned twice already-:) I want something will come from US. The reason, I am looking for is- I am collecting tea glasses from different countries for my book and my own collection. Thanks Derek for your search.

I think, I have found a Russian store near Vienna. Lets see what can I find there. The seller is beautiful Russian female and always wanted me to buy something but I always disappointed her. Once she told me, everything is possible to get from Russia only if I contact her and let her try. Humm.. maybe I will give her a chance LOL Michael, you are always wise. Thanks buddy.

Yes. Sorry. Thanks. Michael

It happens.

How're you feeling? Better, I hope.

I've order items from Russia on Ebay with no problem. I think the biggest problems in customs is the proper paper work. Plus using an export company doesn't hurt. I've order items from HK Postal with a tracking number and sometimes they sit for a week in Alaska clearing our customs. I think there is less a problem with customs if sent by sea than by air.

Much. Thanks. M

Plug in 'russian glass holder' into Ebay and you'll get Russian dealers selling mostly nickel(german) silver such as:

Occasionally expensive sterling silver will pop up. I use this as an example of what I've seen:

PS: I really like this for Ebay cheap:

Derek -

Solid silver with Faberge-style hot color enamel? Nobody needs that in a lass-holder, but this is not at all expensive.

Sasha.

Thanks a lot Jim, great information. I appreciate it-:)

Sorry gang that was the link for the expensive bronze. I can't find my link for the expensive sterling silver. You get the idea mostly cheap nickel silver on Ebay with the occasional expensive sterling silver but still cheaper than the websites.
