Nice Shu Surprise

On my last trip to SF Chinatown I bought a cheap shrinkwrap bing at a corner market I thought contained a CNNP wrapper. The wrapper was folded on the edges so I couldnt tell. I opened it last night and the edges said Yunnan XiShuangBanNa MengHai Xian NanNuo Shan. I should have paid more attention to the wrapper because NanNuo is in large Seal Script circled by smaller NanNuo Shan characters instead of the China character. It is a very mellow shu with larger leaves than the chopsuey CNNP. I would have stocked up at the price. This was the first shu I bought in retail that wasnt CNNP.

PS I can imagine some sheng eventually tasting like this but never looking like it.

Jim, what do you mean by "never looking like it"? It sounds like the leaves of your new Shu cake are in good condition. I've had lots of Sheng cakes with leaves in fine condition. Or did I perhaps just miss your point? Congratulations on your find, by the way. Michaell
