last minute Rhone trip

Aug 17, 2007 2 Replies

Hi all,

We're planning a last minute trip to the Barronies (Drome) for a week, leaving tomorrow. May there please, please be a little sun or at least warmth there. Down to 6 C again last night, rain and wind.

Any recs for little known VDP or other hidden gems in the area? We'll be close to Vinsobres, and of course Nyons, but will probably range as far south as Beaumes-de-Venise. (Should note that this is not primarily a wine trip).

Emery, It's hardly an unknown gem, but you might want to visit Dom. Les Pallieres in Gigondas. Since '98 (IIRC) it's been run jointly by Kermit Lynch and the Brunier brothers of Vieux Telegraphe. It's certainly got great terroir and the few bottles I've had have made me a believer. In Vinsobres, the only two quality producers I know of are Dom. Chaume-Arnaud and Dom. du Moulin, both of which are likely worth a visit.

Have fun, and let us know what you end up doing, Mark Lipton

Thanks for the tips, may check some out. I intend to buy at the vrac pump, too. :) Of course young Paxon has come down with a 101F fever, so departure will be delayed for a trip to the Doc at 8am. Kids, eh? ;)

Will report. cheers,

-E
