Oolong Tea and Weight Loss

Hi,

I've been drinking a lot of oolong tea lately, mainly from Taiwan. Noted some benefits related to weight loss and drinking oolong tea on this site:

formatting link

"Polyphenol in oolong tea is effective in controlling obesity. Specifically speaking, it activates the enzyme that is responsible for dissolving triglyceride. It has been confirmed that the continuous intake of oolong tea contributes to enhancing the function of fat metabolism and to controlling obesity."

Does anyone have more information on whether lightly oxidized or heavily oxidized oolongs are better for weight loss? Or does it not matter?

Thanks.

lightly oxidized tea gives you just about the same advantages for the health as green tea does. but don't expect a miracle. drinking tea is good for you as long as you don't eat junkfood or too much, exercice a little (min=4Km/day walk)... well you know the story... a good way of life...

I think one should drink tea for the taste of it, rather than for the health benefits... but they are welcome of course... : )

Winston,

Thus sayeth the Oolong Tea Store. Word from the Black Tea Store is that only black tea bestows these benefits. What do you suppose the Green Tea Store has to say?

Sorry about the flipancy, but you do see my point, I'm sure. I don't doubt that tea has its health benefits, but we'll need some more objective sources to convince me of the specifics.

Let me just add that there is nothing so delicious as a well made Oolong, lightly or more heavily oxidized or roasted.

If you substitute calorie free tea for sugar laden softdrinks you'll see weight loss. I've been drinking tea most of my life and could shed 40lb. Since caffeine is an appetite stimulant and less in tea then smaller portions. I think tea can suppress food cravings from anecdotal experience. I think there is some tea diet book. I think the biggest health benefit is the antioxidents. I drink tea for the pleasure and if it keeps me alive another day for another cuppa then that is a value added benefit. I discovered this summer green tea is a great thirst quencher. It immediately gets rid of that sweet sweaty aftertaste from hard work which water can't do. It felt like drinking Gatorade which I didn't have and happened to have a pitcher of cold green tea.
